What is this website about?

The reflections on this website are born out of the desire to connect Western readers to global perspectives on Christianity and church practice, primarily from Asian expressions of Christianity. These reflections include articles on theology and church practice and book reviews.

A Brief Story

“If any of you want to back out, you can do so with no shame.”

The air in the room was thick with tension as everyone waited in silence. The room was full of gospel ministers who were faithfully ministering their nation, a place where the government was not friendly to Christianity, especially the kind of Christianity that seeks to share its Jesus with all who will hear. Police pressure had recently increased on these ministers, and the future was not looking any easier. The offer to back out was made by their leader.

Jarred was sitting in the room waiting in the tension with everyone else. With an opportunity to back out of ministry, perhaps to save their skin, no one blinked an eye. Finally, one of the ministers spoke up, “We can share the gospel in prison just as easily as we can out of it.”

This experience is one that Jarred will never forget. The boldness and steadfastness that these believers displayed in the face of significant danger is something that Jarred had never experienced growing up in the church in the West. Something clicked, and he knew that the Western world needed to learn from the global church.

Jarred’s aim is to use his academic background to help resource the church throughout Asia so that it might in turn be able to resource the church in the Western world. His heart is for the global church, his desire to see it grow healthy and to be built up to glorify its triune God through its diverse unity.
